According to reports, the Islamic extremist group laid a siege on the Nigerian Army 5 Brigade around 6 pm on the eve of Sallah.
Although the soldiers attempted to foil the attack, they hardly succeeded in the end as four of them were gunned down, while the assailants also carted away ammunitions including one mortar, four gun trucks, and one artillery gun.
As a result, the soldiers had to move their camp to Damasak, a location where the military has a larger troop.
Reacting to the attack, a military source stated, “Therefore, we now have no troops in Gubio, Magumeri, and Kareto.”
This implies that there is no longer military presence in more than 160 kilometers in the region, hence, the area has been exposed to attacks by the terrorists.
