The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal that hes a Nigerian by birth, contrary to the allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state whose election was confirmed by the election tribunal,Senator Ademola Adeleke has appealed against the ruling of a Bwari High Court questioning his qualification to run for the office. The appeal is suit no FCT/HC/BW/80/122/2018
Among the four petitions so far received challenging the return of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), is that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
It was also gathered that the grassroots campaigners went into the hinterlands of the North and told stories that the people should be wary of Atiku in view of the fact that he was said to have reached a pact with some pro-Biafran personalities, whom they said he planned to hand over the running of the affairs of his administration to.
Speaking after receiving his Certificate of Return, the governor further said that the people appreciate that the difficult and tough decisions that had been taken in the last four years were in their collective interest. El-Rufai also called on the people to join hands in building a better Kaduna “to improve themselves, to tackle poverty and disease, to accelerate development, build new businesses and create jobs.”
Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo says the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole, and the party’s governorship candidate, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, are to blame for the inability of the party to win the governorship election.
The exercise will take place in 29 of the country's 36 states. Seven states - Kogi, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Edo and Anambra - will not hold elections because their governors have not finished their four-year terms. The turnout for the state elections is expected to be higher than the 35.5% in last month's presidential election, down from 44% in 2015.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the House of Assembly election for the Nasarawa / Binyeri State Constituency of Adamawa State. Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state , Mr Kashim Gaidam, disclosed this to the newsmen on Thursday in Yola. Gaidam said that the postponement became necessary following the death of a member of the assembly , who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election.
Prophet Okechukwu alleged that the election was rigged to produce a result contrary to the actual outcome of the election that favoured Atiku. Reacting to the outcome of the elections in Awka yesterday, he said the outcome of the election is not the will of God and warned that “whosoever rigged the election should be expecting the judgment of God soon.”
From the list released so far by the electoral body, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has 64 senators-elect so far, while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has only 41. Another political party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has one senator-elect. With 106 senators returned so far, there are three more seats yet to be concluded from Plateau, Kogi and Imo states.
