Parents of pupils hawking during school hours will be arrested – Ekiti Governor
The governor gave the warning while meeting with stakeholders in the education sector at the weekend. The governor asked parents to take advantage of the free education policy of his administration to reduce the number of out-of-school children. Fayemi said all hands must be on deck to checkmate the declining school enrolment in the state regarded as ‘Fountain of Knowledge’. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Fayemi had, shortly after his inauguration in October 2018, declared free education from primary to senior secondary schools in the state.
NUC Has Not Ranked Nigerian Universities In 14 Years – Executive Secretary
The National Universities Commission (NUC), has dismissed claims of new ranking of universities in the country, saying it had not ranked the nation’s universities in the last 14 years. Prof. Abubakar Rashid, its Executive Secretary, in an address at the 3rdCombined Convocation of the Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawaa State, urged members of the public to disregard recent rankings said to have been done by the NUC. The purported ranking published in the conventional and social media is false, fake and not from the NUC. It is meant to deceive members of the public and should be disregarded.
We have not made fresh demands – Asuu
Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, said in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that the union would communicate its decision on offers made by the government on Tuesday. Ogunyemi said that contrary to some media reports, the media reports, the union did not reject the offer of federal government or make fresh demands. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, after meeting with the union on Jan. 4 said government was about resolving the dispute with the lecturers who embarked on strike on November 5, 2018.
Bowen University expels 29 Students
Bowen University in Iwo, Osun State, has announced the expulsion of 29 students from the institution. The university also placed 26 others on indefinite suspension, according to a statement signed by the institution’s Registrar, Dr Kayode Ogunleye. The statement, published on January 3 on the school’s website, contained the names and matriculation numbers of the expelled and suspended students.
