An FCT High court in Maitama, Abuja, presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu this afternoon granted bail to the senator representing Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye who has been in Police custody for days now. The court granted Dino bail on two conditions which are: (1) That the Clerk of the National Assembly should write a letter assuring the court that they will produce him any time he is needed (2) Two sureties with evidence of owning property in Abuja The bail application was heard in the senator’s absence.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied abducting a senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly Dino Melaye from the Police hospital and forcefully took him to the Service’s medical facility in Abuja. “The Service wishes to state that the information, as being misrepresented by sections of the media, is far from the truth,” DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya said in a statement on Saturday.
The drama over the initial attempts to arrest the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye and his subsequent surrender to the Police for questioning, appears to be far from over as masked police operatives have reportedly stormed the hospital where the embattled lawmaker is receiving treatment and whisked him away.
Senator Dino Melaye has said that he was not among the lawmakers who booed President Buhari. The Senator made this known in a statement signed by his media aide, Gideon Ayodele. On December 19, 2018, Buhari, while presenting the 2019 budget at the National Assembly, was booed by some lawmakers. Speaking on the incident, Melaye said that he was absent from the chambers when it happened.
