The continental tournament is now set to begin on June 21 instead of June 14 and will run until July 19. Egyptian Football Association (EFA) vice president Ahmed Shobir announced the decision on his private television sports programme. “A number of North African countries asked the CAF to delay the opening of the tournament for one week because of fasting in Ramadan as well as celebrating Eid Al-Fitr,” Shobir said on the TV programme, as quoted by Ahram Online.
This award is very big for me, I love it because I saw it when I was young and I always had a dream to win it one day,” Salah said when collecting his trophy for his 2018 exploits. “I’m proud to win it twice, I must thank my family and my team mates, and I dedicate this award to my country, Egypt,” Mo Salah said.
The three players will be hoping to begin the year with the crown of Player of the Year for their exploits in 2018. The winner will be unveiled at the Awards Gala on 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.
