Boko Haram bombs Maiduguri mosque, ‘kills 11’
Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect struck inside a mosque in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, on Saturday, killing 11 persons. Damian Chukwu, commissioner of police in the state, confirmed the incident, saying it happened around 5:30am. He said two suicide bombers, accompanied by a gunman, infiltrated the mosque located in Kushari village behind old CBN quarters in the ancient city.
Thousands of Nigerian refugees fleeing Boko Haram forced back by Cameroon
The United Nations said on Friday it was “extremely alarmed” by the forced return by Cameroon of thousands of refugees to north-east Nigeria, where Boko Haram Islamists pose a continuing threat to civilians. “This action was totally unexpected and puts lives of thousands of refugees at risk,” the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, said in a statement. Cameroon forced “several thousand” refugees back to Nigeria this week, including 267 on Wednesday, the UN agency said.
