Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha, yesterday said that the National chairman of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomole, was against him (Okorocha) because of 2023 presidency. Okorocha while reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, on his suspension from APC, by the National Working Committee, NWC, challenged Oshiomole, to be prepared for him (Okorocha) and that the suspension would not be effective.
Also suspended by the APC NWC over anti-party activities are the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani and the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu. Both governors, including that of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu had been accused of anti-party activities, with several stalwarts in their states petitioning the party leadership and asking for severe sanctions.
From the list released so far by the electoral body, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has 64 senators-elect so far, while the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has only 41. Another political party, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has one senator-elect. With 106 senators returned so far, there are three more seats yet to be concluded from Plateau, Kogi and Imo states.
The results, which were officially released by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the senatorial districts, showed that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party had won 35 seats in the ninth Senate. The Young Progressive Party won a seat in Anambra State. In the South-West, out of the 17 results released so far, the APC had won 14 seats, while the PDP clinched three. The commission has yet to release the result of the Ondo South election, which was declared inconclusive.
Abubakar is the closest rival to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the race for the presidential seat. In a statement by his campaign spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Abubakar urged Nigerians on the need to maximise their eternal vigilance in the next 48 hours to prevent the majority votes recorded at the polling units being disrupted by force by the APC at the collation centres.
An uneasy calm now pervades Eha Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State as a strong supporter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Chukwuemeka Ishienyi, was shot dead on Wednesday. The deceased was said to have been shot dead while returning from a meeting allegedly organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Eha Uno Ward in Nsukka.
