A DECADE OF CLIMATE ACTION
As we begin a new decade, the National Youth Council of Nigeria wish to remind the Nigerian Youth that we must strive hard to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 which calls for urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts in Nigeria and around the world.
Nigeria as a leading economy in Africa, must and should take the lead in combatting climate change. Nigeria has the advantage of having a United Nations General Assembly President in person of Prof Tijjani Bande and Assistant Secretary General , Amina J. Mohammed. We therefore have no excuse to be lazy and their doors have always been open.

It may also be recalled, that at the 74th United Nations General Assembly, President Muhammadu Buhari has made a pledge to plant 25 Million trees by 2030. It is our duty as young people advocate and ensure that aim is achieved. As such, I want to declare the 2020-2029 as The Decade of Climate Action in order to achieve the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
Happy New Year and Happy New Decade!
Signed
Bello Bala Shagari,
President, NYCN.
