Adesola Olusade, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, has expressed the country’s readiness to host a World Cycling Centre in Abuja that will serve the need of nations in sub-Sahara Africa.
Nigeria had earlier this year applied to the International Cycling Union (UCI) to site one of its centres in Abuja, request we reliably gathered has been granted provisionally by the world cycling body.
“I wish to assure that the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is strongly in support of the establishment of a World Cycling Centre in Abuja.,” said Olusade, adding that Nigeria has the passion and commitment for the establishment of the centre in the country.
He consequently invited the President of the African Cycling Confederation, who also is the First Vice President of the International Cycling Union (UCI) and other officials of the UCI for a tour of facilities within the Moshood Abiola stadium.
Olusade said that he has every reason to be glad as the velodrome which has lain fallow for 16 years had come to life under his watch.
