The 2019 Grammys ceremony proves that this past year was the year of the woman, AP Music Writer Mesfin Kefadu reports.
Details: The Grammys have powerful female voices representing the majority in two of the top categories along with many others. Kacey Musgraves, H.E.R. and Janelle Monae are up for album of the year and were also producers on their own projects. Brandi Carlile and pop culture sensation Cardi B are up for both album and record of the year.
The intrigue: Women were almost completely phased out of the award show last year, per the AP. The 2018 Grammys only included Lorde and she didn’t have a performance slot on the show.
Yes, but: Still, despite positive strides for women, the award show faces controversy after comedian Kevin Hart stepped down as host after homophobic tweets resurfaced.
